Chakra is a Sanskrit word meaning wheel or vortex and it refers to each of the seven energy centers of which our consciousness, our energy system, is composed.  Energy centers are doorways revolving between our material and spiritual selves and between the material and spiritual universes.  Through modern physiology we can see that these seven chakras correspond exactly to the seven main nerve ganglia which emanate from the spinal column. Thus you can see why an imbalanced chakra can cause an outwardly physical manifestation. Not only can the chakras be related to physical areas of the body, but they also relate to emotions as well. Below is a quick chart of the chakras, their connections, lessons and what imbalances in that chakra may look like. This is most definitely not a complete list, but enough to give you an idea of what each chakra is about and the issues that may manifest physically when each chakra is imbalanced. Root Chakra (red)

The Root chakra is located at the base of your spine and spins at the slowest rate of all the major chakras and is ruby red in color. The Root chakra is related to physical security which includes Finances, Career, Home, Physical Safety, Needs and Possessions. Fear related to your physical needs not being met will cause your chakra to shrink and become dirty. Examples of such fears and behaviors are being a work-aholic, feeling there is "never enough" money or feeling that you can never get a better job.

Corresponding Crystals: red or black: lodestone, ruby, garnet, smoky quartz, obsidian, onyx, hematite.

Sacral Chakra (SA-KRULL) (orange)

The sacral chakra is located midway between your navel and the base of your spine and appears as a beautiful shade of orange. The sacral chakra is affected by your thoughts and feelings regarding cravings for physical pleasures, addictions and your body (weight, exercise, sleep and appearance).

Solar Plexus Chakra (yellow)

This chakra is found right behind the navel and is a bright yellow shade. This chakra is affected by thoughts regarding power and control. If you fear that others are trying to overpower or control you, it will affect your solar plexus chakra, as well as obessions with gaining power.

Heart Chakra (green)

The heart chakra is located in the center of the chest and is a beautiful shade of emerald green when clear. This chakra represents the beginning of the "upper chakras" which deal with spiritual issues. The heart chakra is affected by thoughts and feelings concerning relationships of all kind (family, friends, lovers, co-workers and strangers), love, people attachments, forgiveness and unforgiveness and clairsentience (clear-feeling). An unclear chakra can keep you from experiencing the deep bliss of true love.

Throat Chakra (sky blue)

The throat chakra is located in the Adam's apple area and is sky blue in color. This chakra is affected by thoughts and feelings regarding speaking your truth (to yourself and others), communication projects, and asking for your needs to be met.

Corresponding Crystals: blue: turquoise, aquamarine, lapis, sodalite, quartz, angelite, aqua aura

Ear Chakras (Violet)

The ear chakras rest at a 30 degree angle above your left and right ears and are a reddish-violet in color. The ear chakras are affected by thoughts and feelings regarding divin communication (communication with God and the spiritual realm) and what you hear or have heard. Our ear chakras get clogged especially if we hold unforgiveness towards someone who had something that was painful for us to hear.

Third Eye (indigo blue)

This chakra is an indigo blue color and located between your eyes and is also referred to the brow or ajna (ANZH-NAH) chakra as well as "the third eye". Your third eye records a movie of everything you think, feel and do, your entire life. After you cross over, you will watch this "movie" of your life. The third eye chakra is affected by thoughts and feelings related to the future, the pasts and beliefs about spirits. When this chakra is clear, you will see the eye of your higher self looking at you; if you see an eyelid over the eye, this means the chakra is closed, blocking complete spiritual vision.

Crown chakra (royal purple)

The crown chakra is found near the inside of the top of the head and is a beautiful shade of royal purple and is essential to claircognizance (clear knowing). This chakra is affected by thoughts and feelings regarding God, religion and spirituality, divine guidance and trust, such as negative religious experiences or bitterness regarding religion and God. I also want to add that some also see a white light associated with this chakra instead of purple or along with purple (probably because this is where our divine light "comes out" and connects with Creator/Source).
