Our guides are with us all the time (although we may not listen to them!) and everyone has at least one guide. We start with a guide that is with us from before we are born and stays with us until after we leave our physical body. Each one of us charts our path before we come to this earthly plane, and we choose what our “purpose” is here and what major lessons we need to learn and how. Our guide is with us during this process and assists us with our chart. Our guide’s role is not to make our choices for us, but rather to help us stay on our chosen path.
Who Are These Guides?
Guides can be anyone really, they can be anyone from an older wise Native American medicine man to your great-grandmother to Buddha or Jesus (yes you can have a deity as a spirit guide!). The only pre-requisite that I have heard of regarding being a spirit guide (at least your main guide anyways) is that they have incarnated at least once on this earthly plane. This makes sense because otherwise they wouldn’t be able to relate to us in many situations; there are so many different things to take into consideration when it comes to earthly emotions, feelings and situations. If your guide had never experienced love, hate, joy, passion or jealousy just to name a few, it would be very hard for them to relate to what you are going through and give advice that makes sense to you. It would be like a Southern Belle trying to tell a Go-Go Dancer what to wear and how to act!
Most people are amazed when they find out that you can have Jesus, Buddha, Kwan Yin, Mohammed, Mary, etc. as a spirit guide. Please remember that no one person/spirit is better than another, so there is no reason why Jesus or Buddha cannot be one of your spirit guides if you want them to be; all you have to do is ask! And if you have always been drawn to a certain deity, chances are they are already one of your spirit guides.
How Many Guides Do We Have?
We all have at least one, as I said before that is with us from before birth until after we leave the physical body. However, throughout our lifetime, we have many guides that come and go dependent upon what our needs are at the time. For example, if your life purpose is a healer, you will most definitely have a guide that did healing here when they were incarnated, and then say you decide to write a book, you may have a guide during your writing process that was an author. There are also guides that may come into our lives for a certain situation, for example the loss of a child or the birth of a child with autism, or a huge career change. Whatever your specific needs at the time, you will usually have a guide related to that need.
What Is Their Purpose?
I touched a little bit on their purpose before, which is to guide us and help us stay on our path/life purpose. They can do many things such as help us in life/death situations, and even request that our chart be altered if they feel it needs to be (that the grief is too much for us to handle or that we are requesting not to leave this earth yet). They also act as “gate-keepers” for mediums, sort of like bouncers. When a medium is doing a reading, their guide will keep lower energies away and “line-up” the spirits who are trying to communicate during the reading. Guides also “download” information to us, for example if you are writing a book, they may give you the words as you are typing, or sometimes you may find yourself talking about a topic that you are not well-versed on and all of a sudden you find yourself speaking as if you’ve read a textbook about it. They can also warn you of things, for example when you have that “motherly instinct”, this may be your guide helping you with your children. All of this is part of helping on your path and with your life here on earth in general.
How Do I Know When They Are Talking to Me?
Guidance from your guide will never be threatening, forceful or make you feel bad. If you are hearing things that make you feel bad, know that it is not your guide, but rather most likely your ego talking. Guides communicate with us in many ways. The most common ways are:
- Telepathically/Clairvoyantly (we hear and see things in our mind)
- Electronically-turning a specific song on the radio, turning the TV on and off or having us look at the clock at the same time every day
- Guiding us to the right place at the right time (guide you to a place where you will meet the right people) by making sure we see fliers for events we should attend or go to specific websites, or even the coffee shop or grocery store
- Making sure things catch our eye, like a specific book at the bookstore or a specific ad in the newspaper
We have all experienced these things in our lives, it’s just a matter of whether we have been paying attention or not. How many times have you thought you were lost, but ended up finding something you really needed or have been looking for-that specific store or place? How about, being on the web looking for something specific and getting routed to something totally different but finding that it’s something you needed? Or even attending a meeting that you aren’t sure why you went but you end up meeting someone there that helped you out in some way? Nothing in this life is by chance, everything happens for a reason and part of that reason is YOUR GUIDES! Their purpose is to keep us on the right path and they do that in whatever way they can.
Can They Make Us Do Things?
NO! We all have free will and guides will never infringe upon that free will. They will make suggestions and we can choose to listen or not… they NEVER force us to do anything or “take control” of us. And there may be some times in your life when it seems that your guide is not there at all… guides seem to fade in and out of our lives depending on how open we are to them and how receptive we are being to their guidance. However, know that your guide is always available to you, all you have to do is ask.
How Do I Communicate With Them?
All you have to do is talk to them! This can be out-loud or in your mind, either way works, they always hear you when you talk to them.
